  • Help! PC133 problems!

I just got a generic 128meg PC133 stick and i'm trying to use it in an Asus P2B-F mobo. I've tried it in two different P2B-Fs with no luck. When they try to POST all i get is beeps like there's no ram in the machine at all. Also, I tried mixing PC100 with it and i know that's not a good thing to do but it will POST and it will recognize the 128 meg PC133 DIMM but it runs thru the ram check about 8 times. So it seems like the 128emg is "there" but the motherboard can't handle it. I've got the latest bios but what caught my eye was on the board it's stamped Rev. 1.00 so do i need to get a new board? i've read on the newsgroups about ppl having problems with P2B's and PC133 so should i just go get an Abit or AOpen and give them a try? or is my ram bad?

      it's a P3-450 and i've got it running at the standard specs. 4.5 x 100mhz
the pci bus is at 33mhz and the agp is at 66mhz i've got the bios set for CAS3. i'm really not sure what brand this ram is but it says LD on it and it is 7ns

        Hey Mark....

I'm using an old P2B (rev. 1.02; purchased when they were first available in US with a PIII 450 overclocked to 504 (4.5 X 112) MHz, BIOS rev. 1010. In it I have 32 MB of PC66, 64 MB of PC100, and 128 MB of PC133 memory. No problems at all. Wasn't the P2B-F released after the vanilla P2-B, or concurrently? I'm not aware of any problems with P2Bs and PC133 memory, and I'm not sure why there would be any at 100 MHz fsb anyways. If I remove my PC66 and PC100 my PC133/P2B does CAS 2 with no problem. My old P2B is only capable of 112 MHz FSB (only 3 frequency jumpers), but I'm sure it would go higher (that was some pretty good PC66 I got!).

Sorry for the long reply, but I'd be surprised if it is an inherent design problem with the P2B.

        The memory works in non-P2Bs?

Maybe try this post at: alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus. Or check around there before you buy a new MB (unless you're just looking for an excuse!).

I think Kruzin uses a P2B, so maybe he can add something.

        John

I've got a P2B and 256 Mb of RAM, two DIMMs. One is CAS3, the other CAS2, and they only work together from BIOS 10.08 upwards.

Mark: What BIOS do you have on your P2B-F? The 10.10 BIOS for your mobo can be found here

The 10.11 BIOS can be found here

Flash your BIOS if you haven't done so already and let us know how you cope

Thanks a lot for all the help guys, i think it's just bad ram (but i'm always looking for an excuse to get a new mobo) anyway, I'm gonna try this ram in an Abit and if that doesnt work i'll try flashing my bios again
