  • Authentication problems with a VPN server and BCM server on the same machine

    Hi

In a small company I'm helping out they are improving their office systems, or trying to at least.

They are using Managed Exchange provided by a 3rd party, and each of their laptops connects to this over the internet. Within the office they have a workgroup comprising couple of XP desktop PCs, XP and Vista laptops, a couple of networked printers, and a Buffalo Terrastation Pro attached to the network. They are using the NAS to store shared documents and also each laptop/PC is using Memeo to back up to it. Currently there are no access restrictions on the NAS.

I want to use one of the office PC (nominally spare atm) as a VPN server to allow remote access to the NAS box. I can now (after replacing their old router) connect over the net to the VPN server, but I cannot then map any share on the NAS. I try Tools, Map Network Drive then \\nasname\sharename but nothing works. At first I try to use credentials from an account on the VPN server, and then it asks for credentials from the client PC.

At the same time I am trying to use the same PC as a BCM server. I've used the MS configuration tool, which sets up the database etc. When connecting to it from another (Outlook 2007) PC I get nothing but complaints about credentials. It wants to change the pw of the user on the BCM server to be the same as the one on the local machinem even though it already is.

Any ideas please? Could these two problems be related?

    Many ta's
