  • Did i fry my parrallel port !

8 hours ago I came home with a brand new HP 970 printer.

When I try to print a test page, It writes some of it OK, but then (sometimes on top of the OK stuff) writes garbled graphics and various ASCII characters. It's like the port transmit OK, and then once in a while screws up.

With the old printer (HP 560c) everything was OK.

I'm afraid I've fried the parrallel port (I put the cable in while both the printer and the computer was powered up), and it's not my computer !

It works OK with other computers, and also if i use the USB connection instead.

Does this match the symptoms of a burned parrallel port (and is it even possible to burn a port that way).

Any thought or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Sounds like you don't have your | | port setup properly for your printer, try setting it to ECP,EPP in your bios and try it again.
