  • File Name Length, Folder Name Length, and Path Length

Anyone know what the limits for File Name Length, Folder Name Length, and Path Length are in Windows XP or any other iteration of Windows and NTFS?

I do get a bit name happy with the various updates from Microsoft. One such name and path that did not trip it up is

D:\PC\System\OS Updates\Multi Platform Components\Windows Media Player\11\XP\2008-01 - SP2 and SP3 - You repeatedly receive a message to install update 929399 on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows XP - windowsmedia11-kb929399-v2-x86-intl.exe

260 characters according to (local path)

The file systems supported by Windows use the concept of files and directories to access data stored on a disk or device.

But every Maxpathlength constant I have seen in programs seems to be 256, I guess programmers a little bit conservative.
