Well I actually don't need it for anything except it would be nice if my system would cut the power when shutting down. Weird enough Win98 does that, but Win2k (2194) doesn't, and somebody told me that it's because of that ACPI.
Thanks anyway!
I was wondering that why would the reinstall help while I had the very same board then when I originally installed it.. (Asus P5A, with a BIOS that claims ACPI)
Gurm I have been to a couple of MS Tech Net seminars and at both of these MS states that when loading an App., .dll's are not suppose to be overwritten in system 32 folder, but are supposed to be loaded into their own folder. (no .dll Hell, so they say)
I have not seen this. Has anyone? Do you need a program written for W2k for this to work? If thats the case, bfd. I can still see .dll's replacing others with older programs and screwing things up. I might not have this whole picture correct.
I've heard of this as well, but I guess you need apps written exclusively for Win200. Also then the apps are supposed to be able to clean the registry properly when uninstalling them.
Go to the control panel, select Power Management, make certain that Enable Hybernate is selected. That allowes my W2K on an ABIT BX6R2 to power itself off.
Hope this helps...

Thanks, but it didn't work. Power Options in Control panel didn't offer me APM tab and enabling hibernate only added the "Hibernate" option to shut down menu while the "Shutdown" acted like before.
Win2k definitely has been switching itself off without ACPI for a while over here. It has nothing to do with ACPI. I have it turned off together with APM. How it does it - that's a different question.

Theoretically, you can change the type of installtion you have from Standard to ACPI by switching the "driver" in Device Manager, but Microsoft does not recommend this. Since it *is* a fun OS for me right now, I did try it -- computer does not restart. Switching from SMP to non-SMP can be done; ACPI to non-ACPI or vice versa requires reinstallation.
Hope this helps a little, although it probably means you won't be doing it
i believe that the article # Q237556 should answer your question concerning acpi. i enabled this feature in build 2128 and it worked flawlessly for me...good luck!
