  • Here !..what I found out about VORTEX2 support ..

I'm running version 4.90.2419 of Windows Millenium. And the Vortex 2 drivers worked fine for me. The ones that came with Windows Millenium that is. If you are referring to something else then I am sorry. Just thought I would let you know.
Mine is called Windows Millenium and not Windows 2000. So that may be a difference. I've heard that there were several different versions of the next Windows.

Borg, Build 2077 will be built 37 days after Build 2040. W2K builds are done daily (including weekends) and the build number increases by 1 each time.

Windows Millennium is the next in the Win9x series. Windows 2000 is really Windows NT 5.0. Very different.

Can't really say where I got, A friend of mine that works at a computer lab swiped me a copy to test out. It is beta 2.
And yes it is a deviation of Windows 98 and not an NT.

Gurm, I'll take your word on the production build number. I haven't worked with W2K for over a year and the latest official version was 1812 at that time. I haven't tracked it since. I was just pointing out how you can time between W2K build numbers. I assume the build numbers continue and I couldn't tell you (at this moment) what build they're at today. So I take it that build 2040 is referring to the Aureal driver build number? I didn't spot this information on the Aureal web site.

WAIT a minute !..OK... PULL THE BREAKS GUYS ..as I was downloaded the latest DRIVERS for my MX300 on AUREAL site becouse the Diamond drivers was realy OLD about one year...it says its REFERENCE DRIVERS ver.2040 check out : http://3dfxmania.com/a3dcentral/drivers.shtml#Vortex 2 reference drivers

OK it is 4.06.2040 but i ment this one & I used only the last numbers 2040 ..OK

so as I read about this drivers for W2K ..there says that from 2077 & later will be for W2K ..you can read this above

I thoght that this 2077 is for X.XX.2077 REFERENCE AUREAL drivers & not a build of W2K

or this drivers are in the LATEST W2K build ..so I dont have them yet & I dont knowe what is the lates & FINAL build of W2K ..

Here !..what I found out about VORTEX2 support ..

A litle more what I found out about Vortex2 from the FAQ-s @ AUREAL site
                -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will EAX be supported on Vortex 2 based sound cards ?
Yes the next Vortex 2 Windows 9x reference drivers will include EAX and I3D2 support
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK! so far , so good ,..but this one realy SUCKS !...

                -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are Windows 2000 drivers available for Vortex 2 based sound cards ?
Vortex 2 drivers for Windows 2000 are included in build 2077 or later. The Vortex 2 Windows NT4 reference drivers will work if you disable ACPI support and PCI steering in Windows 2000 but you will lose multi-processor support.
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

now,.. we are on 2040 & the real support for W2K wil be from 2077 & later...this is no good ..& how long should we wait till 2077 3 maybe 6 months or maybe a year ?????????

So no upgrade on W2K for me @ this time...

First off Borg, that isn't the Aureal site, this is. Secondly, 4.06.2040 is the current version of the reference drivers for the Windows 9x platforms, not W2K. You're site stated that the A3D drivers have been bundled with W2K since build 2077 (W2K build 2077) and therefore would also be included with the production version of W2K (which according to Gurm, was build 2195). I don't see where they document the W2K A3D driver version number or where they have it available for download.

I'm using 2048 here, well a leaked beta of it, (I wouldn't get to excited about it, doesn't add much for me), the final version with the different HRTFs sounds interesting It has been touted as being available within a week or so, but this is Aureal we are talking here so translate that into sometime before '01.

Hold a sec - Gurm, I thought Windows Millennium was Win98 minus DOS. As in you cannot 'shut down' to DOS, or start up in Command Prompt mode

Plus of course there will be 'Stability Fixes' and power management crap, when to MS release an OS that doesn't...
