Looks like I'm going to have to get a job again this term to afford some new toys.

I really want a 6 header, even if just for the larger cooling outlet in the back panel...
and the possibility to get all my CRT and TFT screens together....

      Must check my lottery tickets....

This graph is p*ss poor since it has no indications of the scale.
If it were me, i'd take the green lines at 100%, but take with v large pinch of salt..

I have seen a better version of the same graph, the dotted line is 150%

Without resolution or numbers that doesn't mean much. It could mean the new AMD/ATI card consistently wins (like 4fps vs. 3fps) at 2560x1600 and yet loses at every other resolution.

Still, I hope it is as good as they are saying.

                Reviews are out.

Looks good. Not as good as I had hoped though. Definitely single fastest GPU, but the X2 and 295 cards still beat it in quite a few tests.
At $450 CAD right it is a little more expensive than I had hoped. I guess they are waiting for the green team to release their DX11 card before they lower prices.

AMD inaugure la génération DirectX 11 avec les Radeon HD 5800. Plus de fonctionnalités, plus de puissance et une consommation mieux maîtrisée. Les promesses sont nombreuses, seront-elles tenues ?

                  graphs are universal.

edit : I need a new monitor before a new card anyway....the colours are all washed out on my LCD, looks like a 16-bit colour space when watching films etc....good old CRT's lasted longer than LCD's....

Hope this doesn't become too commonplace...i have quoted the last paragraph of this page.

The GeForce GTX 285 did remarkably well in this game, allowing us to play at 2560x1600 at 8X CSAA. Remember, CSAA is NVIDIA’s unique AA method that reduces memory usage, but is still overall less quality than 8xQ MSAA. We tried 8xQ MSAA at 2560x1600 and found performance to be very slow.

We did experience what we would think to be unusually high performance out of the GTX 285 compared to the Radeon HD 5870. There might be a reason for this. AMD provided this tidbit of information regarding NFS: Shift.

                    Need for Speed: Shift

In another TWIMTBP title, we submitted a list of issues that we discovered during the games’ development. These issues include inefficiencies in how the game engine worked with our hardware in addition to real bugs, etc.. We have sent this list to the developer for review.

Unfortunately you will be unable to get a fair assessment of our hardware’s performance on this software until the developer releases a patch to address and fix our reported issues.
So, it is possible that a game patch and or new drivers will provide even greater performance out of the HD 5870 in this game. As it stands right now though, it still is the fastest card for this game and allows an impressive 12X CFAA at 2560x1600.
