That's still hype. No actual card delivered for previews yet. While the paper looks nice, paper doesn't render well

If you ignore the new technology and just look at the increased numbers of the old tech (shaders, mem/gpu clocks, bandwidth, etc.) and extrapolate from that it should beat the 5870 soundly.

I remember a matrox card that should have beaten anything going by the tech it had........

Apperantly it won't be available until first quarter 2010. By that time, ATI would have sold quite a few units to satisfy gamers around the world.

Bottom line: for those upgrading from an ATI 3xxx or older, or an NVidia 8800 or older I would say don't wait. If you already have a ATI 4xxx or GTX 2xx I would wait to see what the NVidia card is like.
That is of course if you feel you actually need/want to upgrade.

i'll take a look at the ATI 5850, near enough performance for much better cost and power requirements and savings

I'm waiting for two things in LCD tech...before OLED's get cheap and steal the market.

                      1) Dynamic LED backlighting. The big TVs have it, just waiting for the tech to trickle down.

                      2) The death of TN displays. I want a fast responding IPS display next. That way I get good color and performance.

Something like this to be exact, but with slightly updated backlighting and slightly cheaper.

I fear you'll see death of IPS and MVA displays before TNs die. For majority of people 170 EUR TN doesn't look noticably worse than 400 EUR better technology display of same size.

I have the Dell 2407HC monitor, and use my system to edit video with the Matrox AXIO LE which leverages the video cards GPU for 3D effects, so the more powerful the card the more layers and 3D effects I can apply to SD and HD video.
So the 5870 or 5850 would be totally awesome. Nvidia never performed properly with D3D and Matrox which is why I cannot buy it.

The Dell screens look nice, and the HC ones generally have good reviews....
Will be thinking of 24" and 30" screens for a little while....

Back on Nv News, The world + Dog is now having fun looking at the pictures of the Mock-up card, and how badly it was put together....

And Nv Fanboi sites putting up half hearted apologies...

edit : Well, not just fanboi sites, pretty much every site noticed 'something wrong' with the card...
Its just a shame they even tried to pull wool over our eyes....
