      Hi Greebe

      Thanks for your reply :]

I have not had a chance to open it up yet! Can you tell from the numbers on the casing:-

      K7500 MT R51B C
      239949062662

Its made in the USA .
The thing is I have got it for my brother and was hoping to find out its potential without breaking it out of it coffin so to speak :P

      what do you think ??
      Regards Matt {:O)

Athlon 500 week 49, odds are that it is a 650 core, 3.6 ns L2 cache. It can be any other thing, tought.
But thinks this way: You have to open the damn thing to overclock it (unless H-Oda releases that cpu multiplier controler software). If you aren´t willing to overclock it, it´s completely irelevant what core it has. And you don´t have to open it.

(But I understand your dilemma )

Thanks for the info I just found out that it was a week 49 so as you have said its very likely to be a 650 core.To be honest with you I think that any K7 500 will be a 650 core as they have been chugging them out for quite some time now.I have read that the lower mhz rated cpu's made at the end of there run will be using better cores, and as you know AMD have been refining ther processors to the heady heights of 800 Mhz now.Apparently if it was a week 50 or later it could even have a 750 core made with the .25 architecture.I guess amd were trying to push there core to the limits :P.

I know that intel have done this a lot recently because I purchased a PIII 450 and it runs at 630 Mhz without any probs:P .

            if anyone is interested
            www.overclockers.co.uk

are doing pretested, modified athlon 500s guaranteed upto 800 without a clocking board being required. From what i see the prices are very resonable with the 800 costinting 170 gbp+vat. They do some lurvely heatsinks there aswell
