    X68 and new Intel Socket

    Q3 '11.

    -New socket, not compatible with 1366 cpus
    -Sandy Bridge architecture support
    -quad channel memory (will only support 1 dimm per channel, but I would expect 4gb dimms will be reasonably priced by then, with support for 8gb dimms in the future)
    -likely PCI-E 3.0, and will include more lanes than X58
    -first CPUs will be native 8-core (with HT)

    Intel's next generation high-end workstation to replace the current X58 systems will have 4-channel DDR3, more PCI-E and arrives in Q3 2011.

    Prob go AMD this time round, waiting for Bulldozer o break out....

    At least AMD has kept some backwards compatibility in its sockets...

      I don't understand why they don't make a socket that is too big, just with spare holes in the current mainboards. They could then just assign the spare holes when a new processor arrives, making it easier to make things downward compatible...

        I'm with Evildead, I think AM3 will last for quite some time. I'll be building a cheap Athlon II X2 / HD5570 and have an enormous upgradability for years to come should I ever need it.
