CDRW problem

Win98 cannot see my Creative CDRW (internal IDE) as a *recordable* drive.
I am using the Adaptec software which came with the drive.
Windows being as helpfull as ever suggested that i should try turning it on.

-any hints?

So I guess you do need help, right ?

Make sure to have it set as master drive and if possible on its own IDE channel.

Other than that you should check whether DMA is enabled for that drive and look out for possible driver and firmware updates.

If you use an Intel chipset (LX, BX, 810 etc.), grab the following update:

Post your system details for further troubleshooting.

It is set on the secondary IDE channel as a slave.

Primary Master = IBM 6.4Gb
Primary Slave = Pioneer 6x DVD
Secondary Master = IBM 26Gb @7200!
Secondary Slave = Creative CDRW-220e? 2x2x24

They are this way around because the DVD drive is 32x, and some of my things only work on the primary cd-drive.

I dont think i can use the IDE port on my SB AWE32, can i?

-dont have a spare cable so it is irrelevent.

Anyway, DMA is enabled
and btw, i have had this problem before:
I installed Nero Burning ROM but it was for SCSI only - this knackered my rig big time.
- After deleting the offending prog and reinstalling the Adaptec one everything worked, until now....

hmmm ... try swapping slave and master on 2ndary (CDRW as master and HD as slave) ...

I have been using the SBIDE port for 2 and 4xCD writers with no problems (~2 years now).

It is not a problem with the cables.
Could it be a driver problem - aspi32?
Or should i try to re-flash it?
Any help would be appreciated

What do you mean Win98 cannot see it as a recordable drive? My Win98SE doesn't mention my Yamaha 6416S being a recordable drive anywhere.

Is the secondary IDE channel working correctly? Make sure Control Panel - System - Performance says your system is optimized for optimum performance. If the secondary IDE isn't properly detected, you might need the Intel INF updater Maggi mentioned. Of course only if your motherboard uses an Intel chipset. If it is an Athlon, get AMD's update. http://developer.intel.com/design/so...atform/inf.htm

Try using CDRWIN http://www.goldenhawk.com
or FireBurner http://www.fireburner.com

Having the correct ASPI drivers installed is very important.

Unfortunately I can't think of anything else to try. I always used SCSI burners and either NT 4 or Win 2000 for writing CDs.
I don't trust Win98.

I hope you get it resolved soon and start burning games and porn!

Windows can see the drive.
I can read from it, but i cannot write to it.
I have done a clean install of windows (needed to anyway), Re-flashed the CD-RW, Reinstalled the Adaptec software, checked the ASPI32 Drivers - but nothing.

I am hopeing that my version of the software is somehow corrupt, unfortunately i dont have the initial version that came with my drive.

I have tried CDRwin before but it never liked the drive - i will d/l it again and give it ago.

Never tried Fireburner - But i will try anyway.

Did you register the drive. If tou did you may be able to get CL to send you a newer version of the software

I got Easy Cd Pro (SCSI) to work - dont ask how, so therefore my drive is ok.
All i have to do now, is find another copy of Easy CD Creator.
