  • Getting my Athlon 550 tomorrow, how do i overclock it?

I am purchasing a Athlon 550 tomorrow, and was wondering how you clock the thing, is it like my current system, ie Bios or Jumper FSB changes?, or is it done by soldering, or so called golden fingers cards.

any info would be much appreciated

All the solutions you have listed have been done.

The ASUS K7M allows you to change some of the clock setting in the BIOS. It is the only motherboard that does this that I am aware of.

People have soldered their Athlons to change them, but this is the best way to kill your Athlon. Unles you are a PRO at soldering PCB, don't even try.

Golden fingers are the most popular so people can overclock with out using the ASUS board. You simply plug in the golden fingers, change the DIP switches accordingly and away you go.

Greebe is the Athlon overclocking master, email him for more accurate answers.

          Ack!!!

Joe, don't get that PS! The PS is not the place you want to skimp. Get a 300W or better.

I don't care what your friend has - he's playing the odds, and just happened to come out okay.
