  • videcard under 9"

    Hello,

Simple question: I'm looking for a videocard, but it should not be longer than 9" (case restriction). But at the same time I'd like it to be as powerful as possible and silent (when not under heavy load).

Asus has a GTX460 with 768 MB (link)
MSI has some 6850 with 1 GB (link)

    Anything more powerful possible?
    Any other suggestions? Thanks!

460 with 1GB has one of better price/perfomance ratios on Techreport charts, so check if that would fit. Radeons 6000 series are also good and silent running. There are rumours of Geforce 560, so if you can hold out a month or so it may be worth it.

Which case do you have, are you reusing case or starting from scratch? Fractal Define R3 supports graphic card up to 290mm and Lian-Li PC V354 (mATX) suports 350mm (if you remove bottom HDDs).

Thanks for the heads up on the 560!

The limit is actually 245mm = 9.6 inch. But if the powerconnector is at the back, I might need a bit more space (depending on its location).

      I found that Club3D has a 6870 that measures 241mm...

Problem is that not all manufacturers list the card length.

Oh, the case will be the same one UPS dropped. I loved the case so much that I will buy the same case: an OrigenAE S16t.

Just noticed that the Asus GTX560 TI is 9" long

So now I have GTX560 Ti and the Club3D 6870 that would fit... How do they compare performancewise?
And noisewise? (the GTX560 ti has 2 fans...)

The EVGA 560 Ti is 9" (229mm) long.

I would say go for an AMD 6950, but those things are porn star size at 11".

Yes, but I have limited length in the case: not longer than 9.6". So the most powerful cards that fit are the GTX560Ti and the AMD6870 (Club3D).
So it will have to be between those two... unless of course something else comes up before April

Are you gaming on this system ? or is it for home theater ?

It is mainly a home theater, but I would like to be able to do some gaming as well.

Previously I had an XFX 9600gt, and it was silent during HD playback; it made a bit more noise while gaming but not too much.
