  • L2 cache latency

I'm sure the answer to this question is obvious but I'm still working on my first
cup of morning coffee and am not thinking clearly yet.
My abit mobo allows settings from 1 to 15
and default.Which setting, the highest or lowest provides for the best use of the cache?
If I am overclocking and trying for stability
do I increase or decrease the setting?

Hi Surferpop, what processor are you using??

The L2 setting will vary depending on which P3 you have.

      Hi Paul,
Right now I have a p3550 @645 but I'm looking at the coppermine 650 or 700.The 650 seems to have a lot of potential according to overclockers.com.
Have you hit 900 yet on your 700?

        Hi Steve,

I'm still at 868MHz with my 700E. For the P3-700E I leave the L2 setting at "default" I don't think this Bios setting has any effect on the Coppermines on-board cache. For your P3-550 I think the default is 1 or 2. I had mine set to 4 for overclocking. If you set it at 8 or higher it will disable the L2 cache which is not desirable.

If your have lockups or other problems you might try setting it at 3 or 4 for your P3-550.
