  • 19" rack solution

    Hello,

I'm looking for a small 19" rack solution. Basically it needs to hold a patchpatch panel (1U) and
a switch (1U); ideally I would like to add some rack shelves to put other small items (satellite multiswitch, router, ...) so all cabling stuff is nicely grouped there. The available height is about 35 cm.

I found some interesting things on the internet:
    http://www.middleatlantic.com/enclos...ck/desktop.htm (only in US)
http://www.blackbox.be/en-be/fi/822/...sktop-Rack/All (8U is not listed but only shown, still it may be too high)

Another option would be a wall mount and just put is down:
http://eu.startech.com/Server-Manage...nel~WALLMOUNT6 (but as the back is closed, I fear for cabling issues)

I also came across DJ and audio racks, and this one looks interesting:

Just to make sure: are the mounting system and sizes the same?

    Any other suggestions ?

    Thanks!

    The smallest one would fit:

The door could be an issue... also, I am hoping to find a lighter solution..

I measured, and the height is just 27 cm (not 35 cm), but the opening to reach the shelf space is only 23 cm. So this means I'm looking realistically at 4U-5U height.

All the options I found seem to surpass that...

        This could be an alternative:
With the ability to support up to 200 pounds, this versatile under table rack mount is great for when you have limited space. Order your Cruxial Urack wall mount today!

I could go for the 4U or perhaps the 5U and then just put it down on the shelf. It is 6" (15 cm) deep, and the deepest component I would have is 21 cm (the switch).

maybe get some rack rails and make your own cabinet for them?

Yes, but I first want to see what I could find ready made: it will be easier and possibly sturdier...

I'm thinking of putting items in this order
            - shelf (to hold satellite multiswitch; it is 8.5 cm high)
            - patch panel
            - network switch

The network switch is the heaviest component, so putting this in the bottom would give it more stability (especially if I get something like this: http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/20...ACKET-3U-black and just put it down). The patchpanel would come just above it, and the shelf would act as a cover for the patch panel. On the shelf, I could then put the satellite multiswitch and the router.
