As long as the miniPCIE card supports SATA port multipliers, you can run any RAID array you wish off it (with the help of an external enclosure such as my Lian Li EX-50).

The pictures of the Zotac you linked to show a free miniPCIe slot on the backside of the PCB. Physical SATA cable routing probably requires you to be 'creative' with the Zotac's enclosure.

As for hardware RAID0: never tried, but I would indeed think it works the way you proposed; and can easily be tested if you have disposal of a hardware RAID or fakeRAID controller.

Hadn't thought of running the raid array off the miniPCIe card... Still, it would require quite some creative work, and there may be other options coming up. First task is to get the router, get everything working as it should, and then see what is missing...

Which brings me to the router: any specific IPv6/IPv4 functionality I should look out for?

Just started looking at things... Would this be a workable option:
A computer built around this (just one example): https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H67I_DELUXE/, or https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/E2KM1IDELUXE/ , or some Atom board with wifi (JetWay, ...)
running pfSense or something like that? Can it then be configured as wireless access point?
Would running VMWare vSphere be possible to have e.g. one router (e.g. pfSense) and one file server (e.g. FreeNAS)?

Ok, I was looking at the Asus DSL-N55U, http://www.asus.com/Networking/DSLN55U_Annex_A/ , as it seems to have most features that are interesting, and the price is not too bad. It would allow me to use the built-in ADSL modem, which would be better (less power consumption) than my provider-supplied modem. However, I don't like the fact that it has no normal WAN port: either it is an ADSL router, or nothing... So now I'm looking at the Asus RT-N66U, it does not have the modem, but also acts as VPN server, which I would like (not that many routers have this).

Using a pc as router seems overkill (I would put one as NAS, but later).

Another option is to just get an access point, and keep using my old router as wired router, but their does not seem to be that much price difference between access points and routers.
