    It looks as if though both AMD and Intel can't wait until next quarter to release 1+Ghz parts:

    I can confirm that AMD has been sampling 1Ghz Athlons to a major PC OEM (a family member works there), and it has been okayed for pass. I feel better about this month already

    Tell you somit though you will need very deep pockets cos they will be damned expensive

      If only they would use that new way of cooling chips etc. (see my thread here somewhere), then they would be 2GHz CPU's

      And yet more expensive, yay!!

        With smaller transistor sizes, the transistor gate delay is becoming a much smaller part of the delay internal to the chip. The interconnect routes are becoming a more substantial contributor to the delays. The days of bumping up the voltage to push over the transistors a bit faster to overclock your chip is becoming a thing of the past.
