backing up video to bluray

Ok, simple question... I want to save some video files to blueray, mainly for archiving.

Without authoring a blueray disk, what would be the best format so that files would be playable on normal blueray players?

I suspect that authoring a disk will make it more difficult to quickly copy a single file from the disk later...

I use Make MKV to create a raw, decrypted copy of the disc.

There is also CloneBD from SlySoft. They are the classic DVD/CD backup company if you prefer that route.
