I was guessing that it ultimately translated into "I" but eye didn't pick up on the interim text. Haven't been grinding up the G400s and smokin' them lately.

The really frustrating thing is that I just spoke to one of the most knowledgeable people in Telecoms out here (Jamaica) and she says exactly what I thought was the case. That is that the infrastructure is already in place for DSL but the telco is not interested in that (being a backward set of morons, plus they have a monopoly {and don't even get me started on that}). Well with the new act that was passed they shall soon have competition so that may encourage them to do things like DSL [he says with fingers and toes crossed][size=1]D3/\/7YCR4CK3R

Speaking of smoking ... Jamaica!!! Pass the splif mon! No wonder you post in code.
Have you thought about using satellite for internet access? Not the fastest but probably better than what you've got. Speaking of monopolies ... my happiest day was telling the cable company to take a hike when I got my big dish.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>

Yes we do have some of the best weed out here. Don't smoke it myself, just drink a lot of Red Stripe Beer. Apparently the TelCo guys have been smoking a lot of it though based on their actions LOL[size=1]D3/\/7YCR4CK3R

Free DSL Anyone? Check out http://www.freedsl.com/ They say they will not be up and running till April, buy we've waited longer than that for MSP 6.0 & the RT2000 right? - It's supposed to be available anywhere dsl (or adsl) is currently offered.

Hi all
Here in Montreal quebec canada, we got Bell High Speed and Vidéotron 2 way cable. Their both at $39.95 cdn.
I chose Bell for reliability. It's supose to be 1.28kbps down stream and 320 up stream. then in the modems specs they say 960kbps. I often get downloads at 88k. Not bad at all.
It was $129 up front, huge box with 4 phone filters. All in all... I'm very satified and it did cut my surfing time by at least half.
Going to try the new Rwin values though. For that, I'm using a software called MTUSpeed.

I found that a RWin value of 32120 works best for me, it's basically trial and error. I'm also using PPP Boost, set my MaxMTU at 1484, was at 1500 but when Bell Sympatico went to there PPPoE system it added some overhead so I had to drop the value down.

I went from cable to sdsl and back to cable.
I tried it to test some questions. My friend had sdsl and hyped me up about it since we can see the pac bell building from our backyards so that means we are really close. I was paying for 384 k/sec since it was the same price as cable. Uploads speed don't matter to me since I don't run FTP or game servers, and my online games still run great. Suffice it to say I went back to cable. The download speed of dsl is NOT gauranteed. They gaurantee that 384k is the max (for the package I chose). Think about this, since this makes sense. That DEDICATED line is bs. It's dedicated only to the switch or router. Then it goes out from the phone offince to the isp. Dsl is a tier 3 server whereas cable is a tier 1 service, so they have their own connection to the atm backbone. At least that's how it is here for my area. I bought my own cable modem so I pay less then I used to. 29.95 a month and I get really great speeds even when it's busy. My friend plans to discontinue sdsl and go with cable.

Rick, thanks for the input, I think that above a certain point there are diminishing returns.
The DSL vs cable thing depends greatly on what is being offered in your local area, I get 55KB/s down with the cheap package (512/128), a buddy of mine with cable gets around 80KB/s down, but I am paying $15 less, I can get (1024/512) for another $15 so it would probably round out to about the same. Lucky bastard that he is, he found some cheap Alcatels on EBay and his monthly cost will be around $30 when he switches, I am stuck on a contractual montly plan. Thing is, sites like ftp.cdrom.com get slow enough for it not to matter much above ISDN speeds anyway.
