W2k and auto power off

I just installed w2k, and it doesn't shut my system down when i close it...(i have to push the on/off button for 8 seconds if i want to shut down the sytem, but when i release the buton the system starts again)

do you have to turn that on somehow???

You have to enable APM in the power options.

i don't know about your system but mine has a bios option that tells the power button how to behave(..on/off or suspend/resume), i think most atx mobos' should have it.

Hunsow is correct, you need to go to your control panel and power options and enable APM.

You need to have ACPI installed. If you look in device manager and it says Standard PC, then ACPI is not installed. Gurm can give you the details, he's the expert. Maybe try searching for older posts unless he finds this.

Well I set mine to APM and now when i shut down my screen goes black for a few seconds with a blinking cursor and then the system reboots

ACPI is installed on mine and the ATX power shut-off still won't work. Funny thing is it USED to work. And it worked once (and only once) last week. Go figure.

Mine shuts down properly in Win98, but just gets to the "It's now safe to turn of your computer" screen in Win2K. I haven't had time to verify the APM settings in Win2K since I read the messages here, but I'm guessing that will take care of it(??).

Another interesting tidbit- Win2K is MUCH more finicky about overclocking, especially in the area of memory. Win98 rarely crashes because of anything that appears to be remotely related to memory errors at 558 (P3-450), but Win2K does so at least once a week (stop errors).
