    IceStorm,

The P3v4x problems are not likely a VIA problem, as it affects only the p3v4x and not other 133a boards. VIA is, however, working with asus to provide a solution to the GART problems.

LAMFDTK, Here's my list. Though I won't suggest just one company. There's to many factors to take into account.
Athlon 700, that gives you the best chance of getting a 0.18ยต core and fast L2 cache.
Epox 7KXA Motherboard, it is KX133 and is available.
KTI PC133 RAM, it is certified with the EP-7KXA, best price is at Dallas Memory ($140 or less per 128MB DIMM).
InWin Q500-N Tower Case, it's redesigned for better fan placement with lots of nice touches. Normally comes with...
PowerMan FSP300W-60GT power supply, 300W and AMD approved. I've been using it with 2x IBM HDs + DVD + CD-RW and basically 6, of 7, slots full no problem.
IBM 34GXP - 20.5GB, latest IBM series, the best value in size vs. performance, it will give you less trouble than Maxtor. Alternatively get Western Digital, they are essentially equal to the IBMs.
Matrox G400Max, I've seen some good prices recently (below $200).
SB Live OEM - aka PCI 1024, if you aren't going to install Win2K
      Aureal SQ2500, if installing Win2K.
All the other stuff is discretionary, IMHO. Though some 3Com NIC's have trouble sharing IRQs when it's needed. I've switched over to Kingston NICs. I also don't like any currently available Internal Modem. The 3Com Winmodems are the worst offenders. Get one with a LT chip (Lucent Tech), if it is a necessity.
