ATA66 Controllers and Bus Speeds

Howdy folks,

I just got myself a HotRod ATA66 controller to accompany my BF6, and have found several times since I installed it, that my box will not boot, it beeps at me but will not post.

I initially had the FSB at 117 with a 1/3 PCI multiplier, I've dropped it to 115 with a 1/4 multiplier and it didn't complain on this last reboot.

Has anyone else found these cards to be a bit sensative about these things?

I was using one on a BX6-r2 and was able to OC up to 133MHz. It shouldn't be a problem. Just disable the Primary IDE and the Hot Rod card may be a bit touchy about sharing IRQs with other devices.

I also found the HotRod 66 to be "touchy" above a PCI bus speed of 38.3 (115÷3). When you go to 124, or higher, on the BX6 r.2 the 1/4 PCI divider becomes available. This is probably how ALBPM got it to run at 133. Also I've found that the HotRod 66 does sucessfully share IRQs with USB, if you can get it setup that way.

Here's a question for you smarties, SiSoft Sandra Pro 99 reports that my PCI multiplier is currently 1/3, not 1/4 like I have set in the BIOS. I read somewhere that the 1/4 multiplier doesn't become available on some boards until the FSB reaches 124. If this is the case, it's understandable that the ATA66 controller is having a shit with my PCI bus speeds which must be around 39.

Am I making any sense or am I grabbing at things in the dark?

What was the joy of my PC last week, has been relegated to a storage controller. My primary HDD is now back on the motherboards UDMA33 controller. Still, having another 4 IDE ports is nice, considering how expensive the SCSI option would've been
