Oh No!! Now I have really done it. I know I should have listened better.. and I would have working setup instead of BSOD in the startup which I cannot go around.
I mean what the ***k does that "Last Know Good" does if it really does NOT revert to last know working setup!

Buuri, just run the win2k setup and choose the repair option. It´ll work again and you don´t have to reinstall everything again.

Yes I ran the repair and replaced only HAL.DLL. After doing that I was able to boot to W2k, and switch back to "Standard PC" mode.

JesTa784, I was running a regular K7M before. When I updated to one of the latest bios it "greyed" out this selection. Forcing use of ACPI. So you can either go back to a previous bios, try beta126, or you can look for another solution to your sound problems. There might be another setting in bios that is contributing. Have you tried the Asus forum, found at the Asus-USA site? Post there and see if you can find a resolution. Good Luck!

Well, i did a reinstall of win2k by holding onto the f5 key. That worked great and acpi has been disabled... but now someone says i didn't have to??? man... oh well. But now i'm experiencing the no suspend mode, apm, etc. I turned apm back on and it does shut down automatically, but still no suspend.

Things do seem to be better with different IRQs, but my sound still magically disappears using winamp occasionally. I blame the beta drivers for my MX300 for that. And now that aureal has gone belly up, doesn't seem like a fix is comming soon.

Don't forget that that if just one hardware driver or application does not support ACPI properly, the whole plot will collapse.
I suggest that you do a clean install with just an IDE hard drive, a conventional or IDE floppy and the video card in place. Then check if ACPI is working including switching off all cooling fans. If everything is OK to this point, your motherboard and video card/ driver is at least compatible. Then start putting in other hardware one at a time and test each time. Then install applications, keeping a special eye on communication applications such as Talkworks/ Winfax.
For example, an Imation parallel port LS120 drive COMPLETELY kills an ACPI computer-no resume at all from standby, even just monitor standby. Pull the plug on the drive and reboot, everything works again.
