  • Help with a mobo

I have 2 slot 1 P3 600E Coppermine processors and am looking for a dual slot 1 mobo for them to live in. I have Ide devices (not scsii) and 512 (4*128) sdram ATX and 400 MAX.

I have been killing myself trying to find motherboards to suit the above not helped by the fact that I like in the UK and we are actively discouraged upgrading PCs over here (the prices of upgrades are a scandal)

Please can anyone shed any light on the situation

    Thanks in advance

I assume by the fact you will be using 4 x DIMM's that it's a BX based board your after. If this is the case I recommend the Iwill DBD-100, it supports bus speeds upto 133Mhz and pretty stable. The downsides are it only has 4 PCI slots and being a dual board is quite big! It's available from www.aria.co.uk for a very reasonable £ 97.00+VAT.

Thanks for replying Taz. Having spoken to a couple of vendors they seem to suggest that the dbd-100 will only support a p3 550 and not a coppermine 600e.

My choice of memory is due to the fact that I already have it. I will happily move to any chipset (I did try to get an intel 840 but the lead time is an issue) I just need a home for my processors.

The only alternative is to junk the slot 1's and invest in some 370's instead. It would have been cheaper to buy a new machine.

I an currently resigned to using my iMac until this is resolved.

Be sure to check The Register from today and yesterday. Seems there is quite a controversy about the dual processor abilties of the flip chips. The articles have several links to contradictory Intel sites and press releases.
