  • Dual head without Matrox

I have a friend wishing to upgrade his system to dual head. He wants to have a primary display on his monitor and a secondary display to his big screen tv so that he can surf the net from his couch. heh. The problem is that his Dell Dimension v350; a system that is less than 2 years old has no AGP port. (stupid dell and their non upgradable systems). No AGP=no matrox.

So I'm asking how could I achive this without repacing the mobo. Is there a two pci card combo that will allow a tv as a dispaly?

    Thanks ppl.

i have a friend...he has 3 voodoo 3 3500TV cards/3 monitors, and i know that v3's come in PCI format, so you could try using that, but i think that it would only work in win98/w2k. Just a suggestion for you

What the world needs is a good PCI to AGP converter adapter.

There are plenty of cards that will do TV-out. Just not in G400 DualHead Multi-monitor fashion. They do what we Dual-headers would call "clone mode".
One that is Matrox, does clone style TV-out, and is still available in PCI is the G200Marvel.

Yea, Jord, but the person looking for this wants to send the desktop to a TV.
As we have already discussed a while back, the MMS cards don't do TV-out...

Looking at the Mobo, I see that it has an ATI rage chip built on board. If I purchase a single pci card that has TV out, I should be able to achive dual monitors (one being to a tv). I should be able to add a pci video card to a mobo with built in video right? And have both enabled?

Alternatively: I already have the G400 for the system so I might as well replace the mobo. The user is all for that as cost is really not an issue. Just wondering what is easier.

Too bad about the Matrox G200 Multi-Monitor
not being able to display TV out. It looks sweet.

Ah yes, sorry Kruzin, it was something with a flaw, but I didn't know what it was... no TV-Out on the G200 MMS... now I know
