  • Quick question on clean Win98 install

Weeee!!! So, I finally got my new Athlon Mobo and 15 gb HD today. So as soon as I get home from work I'm going to start playing. Right now I'm using Win98SE, I used to use Win98, and I'm trying to figure out which one I should go with this time. Now I've heard numerous arguments favoring one or the other. So lets bash it out once and for all.
Which is better, 98, or 98se?
Go to it guys and gals.

Two maids a milking... really thou, I've heard more stability from either, depending on system config. I'm not a MS nut and don't use ICS (but use NAT32, which is better) so for me it's win98+ patches.

Win98SE is fairly stable. Not as stable as NT, but much better than the Win95 it replaced on my computers. I went straight from 95 to 98SE - primarily because I wanted the ICS. Unfortunately, ICS has been a bigger problem with AOL ( I'm embarassed to admit I use it, but with four users and a daughter that lives on Instant Messenger, I can't give it up.) But be forwarned, ICS and AOL don't mix. I can either get AOL or TCP/IP to work on my peer to peer network, but not both at the same time. And I think AOL destroys ICS if it can. Oh well, maybe you will have better luck than I did.

Win98se here,se is really win98 as they wanted to release it,but due to the pending doj hearings, etc.Microsoft rushed win98 out.
Win98,for example, misses loading in up to 12 vxd files, which can lead to problems down the road.
          That was corrected in se.
SE also tends to be a little more up to date with hardware and a little more stable.
It may be adviseable to get win98 and the se upgrade.(The se upgrade is available from Microsoft for about $24.00)
In this way you could check out both versions!
