  • Two little problems....

yes, but you cant configure the cd audio for the two drives independantly, can you?

    Paddy:

You can configure the two volume levels independently. If not with Windows' mixer then with Creative's mixer - go get the latest SB32 drivers.

Also, as for the CDR Issue... the version of EZ-CD that comes with CD Drives is utter and complete crap. Now, having said that... the problem is the ASPI layer. When you installed the old-ass POS version that came with your drive, you got an ancient ASPI layer. Installing some other proggies updated that layer, making it incompatible with EZ-CD 3.0, which was rectified when you updated to 3.5. However, CDRWin again updated the layer on ya. You need to get Adaptec's latest ASPI layer from their site, and/or get EZ-CD 4.0 to fix this problem.

      Two little problems....

      Perhaps you could help?
      • I have two CD drives, both with a CD-audio cable going into my AWE32. However, the output of one of my drives has dramatically dropped. I can hardly hear anything from it at all now.
I have not tried swapping the cables yet (sorry)...
      • I have a Creative 2024e CD-RW. I installed the Easy CD creator which came with it. Since then I have installed other CDR software, and whenever I do, the Adaptec software fails to recognise my drive.
I dont know what to do... I installed the 3.0 to 3.5 upgrade patch (which fixe the problem), but since then i have installed CDRwin and the problem has manifested again. Unfortunately i have just moved and i think I have binned the origional installation CD.

      Any ideas?

You have checked the volume level on the soundblaster by clicking on the speaker ?

          Sorry,
You can configure the drives independantly through \control pannel\multimedia...
          - that does not fix the problem.

I already have the latest ASPI layer. I think that the solution would be to get a copy of the EZCD 4.x

          What do you think?

Hi Paddy, do the drives connect to the same PHYSICAL CD input on the soundblaster? Even though there are several different connectors on the AWE32 for CD-ROM audio input, they are not independent from each other. There is a problem with input level mismatches if you connect two CD-ROM drives to the same physical input. That makes the volume of the drives drop. If that is the case, there are line level decoupling devices on the market.
I will check for the appropriate website of the manufacturer. Just read about it yesterday.

            Regards, Alegria

Hi Paddy, just found the source for a solution of your problem #1.
Have a look at the picture below and get your soldering iron ready if this applies to you.

              Helpful?

              Regards, Alegria

I have two input on the card. They are for different connectors.
                • an flat black one
                • a small white one

                Not very descriptive!

I've got those two connectors as well, Patrick, but use one of them for my modem, (the black one) and the other for my cd-rom.

I don't think that both of them are capable of playing sound at the same time. I was already wondering why you have two cd-roms in your machine, but that aside

The black one is a 4 pin MPC-2 connector with a pinout of LGGR (left Ground Ground right) while the white one has a pinout of LGR N/A. The connectors are physically connected together thus if you use both input jacks ther will be a mismatch. building the little voltage divider thing shown above will solve the problem.

Sorry to bring this one back up, but I might have found a solution for Patrick, or something to look for in his local audio-/PC store: 2 CD's to 1 Soundcard Splitter MPC Cable

                      Jord.

Edit: Thanks to Greebe for that page It has great prices for all kinds of cables and other stuff!!

                        Cheers Jord,
Although the cable is not the problem.
I have two cables, two outputs, two inputs.
It did work. Nevermind - i supose you cant listen to two cds at once!

Id be interested if you know you to fix the CDRW problem though?
                        ;D
