  • Cooling 440BX chipset

What is the best solution for cooling my 440BX chipset? I am operating at 105 but I know I can go further if I cool the thing off more. Currently, I still have that green heatsink stuck to the chipset (i did put some heatsink paste in there though).

I wouldn't worry unless you go above 124mhz, but if you still want to, I'm using the Tennmax Lasagna BGA Type A and it fits nicely under the cpu heatsink

Before I applied the heatsink paste the comp would freeze during bootup @ 110 fsb. After it will boot completely and freeze after I get into Q2, Q3, or UT. So I am assuming its the chipset. Anyone recomend a peltier?

you may want to check to see if the agp ratio is set to 2/3 in your bios

you would be better off spending your money on a new board. If your board is giving out before your chip or your ram then it's a duffer.

Well, the BEST solution would be a waterblock+pelter.
However, it isn't really usefull (i.e you would only need that if you exceeded 150 mhz fsb)
a tenmax cooler or a spare 486 heatsink will do, also, if your fealing dareing, you could lap it down

A an old 486 fan would probably fit nicely. Have one lying around? That's what I used when my friend wanted to cool down his BX chipset on his BP6 mobo. I passed along my old 486 cpu fan/heatsink to him, and after separating the fan and heatsink, he attached the fan to the BX chipset heatsink w/o problems.

                Regards,

                Ben
