New tweaking software for P3V4X

Found this piece over at HardOCP:

I have written a plug-in for H.Oda's WPCREDIT program that can be used to tweak the VIA Apollo Pro series chipsets. (H.Oda is the author of softFSB).

This is for Apollo Pro, Pro+, Pro133 and Pro133A based motherboards (using the 691, 693, 693A & 694X northbridges).

It allows the user to adjust many more settings than are in any BIOS setup, including memory timing, IOQ depth etc.

Haven't tried to change any settings cause I'm not sure about my HEX reading ability. Would be interested to know if anyone else tries it and gets any sort of performance boost.

I can say that this is a very good utility. Using it I managed to increase my Sisoft Sandra Memory Subsystem Score 2 times on my Abit VA6. And My 3D Mark 99 score got much higher.

Rick this a would be a nice program but like you i wouldn't mind finding out how those hex readiing work, anyone have a clue?

Got them figured out. To make them permanent you need to grab the WPcreditset program off the same site.
Launch WPCreditset. Click the Start at startup button.
Click add, leave bus, device and function set to 0. Change Register to 50 and data to FD. Do the same twice but using Register 51, Data D8 or F8 and then Register 64, Data 26.

The first change probably isn't needed cause Asus seems to have the IOQ set properly, but since it generates the biggest increase 50% lets play it safe and include it. The two other changes combined netted me about a 7% increase in the Sandra memory benchmark.

The program changes the values at startup so
the changes aren't permenant. If you have any trouble booting, just boot in safe mode, launch wpcreditset and just click the stop button under Startup.

I actually had some trouble booting at my default speed 366 2.0v until I undid the last two changes. Not sure why though. This program is really handy for non-Asus Via boards since it corrects the IOQ setting to a much better setting.

Oh, Cancer if you're using a USB intellimouse, what does Device Manager detect it as? Mine shows HID-compliant mouse and there's a new thing Called Human Interface Device that wasn't present when mine was installed on a P2B board. Just wondering if this is how the Via boards support USB mice. My USB HP 895 is detected normally.

Thanks for the info, i'll have to check it out. i had a feeling the ioq wasn't the highest on these boards however i was hoping asus would fix this in a later bios update ie. create a changeable setting for the ioq like their was on my old abit bh6 board. about the mouse thing, i have a similar setting (my mouse is usb). device manager has it as a hid-compliant mouse. under neath that their is a ms ps/2 mouse (intellipoint)with one of those exclamation marks ontop. this is odd because i have disabled irq12 (ps/2 mouse allocation) in the bios?
