I was begining to wonder if you would.

Instead of wondering if forcing agp1x would fix the problem, why not just try it? But keep this in mind... if you have to then it would be better to switch back to a non beta BIOS. That MB supports AGP2x with Matrox cards.

Yeah well, you of all people Greebe should realize that I'm a bit slow with computers... I'm going to switch back to 1.3 bios and maybe that will help maybe it won't. If it doesn't, I'm going to try the 1x thing and see if it helps. I'll let you know.

      Dimitri

P.S.: Just realized my comp thought it was a pci vid card. Would that make any difference in this? I changed it in the bios to the correct form.....

I was screwing around in my bios earlier and noticed a couple things I'm not familiar with. Stop unused PCI clock. Should that be enabled/disabled and what does it do? Also, I found something about an onboard FDC. What is that and what should it be? I don't have anything onboard so should I disable it (it's auto right now)?

        Thanks,

        Dimitri

Not sure about the "Stop unused PCI clock", But the onboard FDC is your Floppy Disk Controller.

Do you guys think that the problem may be due to the limit of L2 cache?
As K7-700 use 1/2 L2-cache, so when you overclock to 750Mhz, L2-cache will become 375 Mhz. It will depend on what cache you have in your K7-CPU.
I think this is a reason why AMD set L2-cache to be 2/5 for K7-750.

Kelvin, that is a very good possibility. Unfortunately, I have to crack open my cpu in order to change that and I haven't done so yet. I was trying to figure if that was what was holding me back, if the ram was a problem, or if I'm just doing something wrong. It's looking that way though.

Dimitri, I think you are doing it the hard way.
                Get or make a GFD.
Some people could only get 105MHz FSB out of the IronGate chipped boards, some 107 but less got 110 and only a lucky few could go any higher.

On the other hand you may be able to go 800MHz maybe 850 @ 1/2 L2 if you got some sweet chips. And dropping the L2 down to 2/5 or 1/3 you may be able to hit 900 or even 1000 with good cooling and if you have a magic core. I have one of Greebe's Gems and OC'd a 500 to 800 @ 1/2L2 and just left it there since around November. Do yourself a favor and use the multiplier advantage. BTW nice workshop, though it could use a good cleaning

I am still amazed at the # of people who say"I can't get but 107 FSB" damn the luck!
Have you never heard of the 250 MHZ (easy)upgrade to be had with the solder/GFD method?? Its only been around about a year!!
(well, not quite!)Man! Need a BIOS?? Change the voltage?? Generic RAM?? DUH!! Blank screen?...ah yes, now I see!!

JW, as smart as you think you are, that isn't appreciated. Some don't have the time due to other factors in their life. Like work or school and/or generally LIVING! That includes 85% (at least) of all that own computers. Take your sarcasm elsewhere, it won't be missed here.

Mike's response is much more refined/civilized than mine was JWilliams. Take his advise.

OK Dimitri, how do you do the flaming face? Is there a guide for all of the faces possible - I can only do a few.

                        TIA, Paul.

I never said I was smart, only the people doing the mods, like you,Greebe! As for time, about 15 min. to take off the case and pull the CPU, 15 min. to box it up, another 15 min. to put it back in. I've been to school, got a job, have a life, and still could find a spare 45 min. to get an upgrade.

My point was, if sarcastic, to not push your RAM to its limits with high FSB...generic ol' RAM will work with "stock" FSB. Granted, very high quality RAM is the new standard, PC133 is the norm, but PC100 will do the trick (can you agree to that, Greebe?) if you just do a solder/GFD mod. I just hate to see guys bashing their heads against the wall over 107 FSB, hating Athlons 'cause they don't tweak, and we haven't even touched on hard drives vs OC'd FSB. Sorry for expressing my views on my 250Mhz (only) OC'd machine w/generic PC100, I don't know what I was thinking!!
