what i read indicates that the apic has an extra byte enabled, but it still takes a multiprocessor operating system to initialize that byte(..pg. 75-78 ).
right after my bios post configuration screen is displayed i get two entries on my screen just before the floppy seek -
BSP 512K CPU Micro code OK
AP#1 512K CPU Micro code OK
thats Boot Strap Processor and Application Processor...given that, windows 98/DOS et. all would only see 1 CPU(..probably BSP). win2k on the other hand initializes that byte and gains access to the other cpu!
one question...is the MPS mechanizim in win2k 1.4? i can't seem to verify that.
