  • Thunderbird benchmarks disapointing?

    http://www.kbench.com/english/index/...09&ARTI_PAGE=1

I hope something went wrong with these guys´ setup. Thunderbird should be much faster than that. That, or AMD has another celeron A/Pentium II issue...

Didn't the first Athlon benchmarks suck too?

Yes, that´s true. Mainly because the chipset drivers were so immature. But the point I was trying to make was that a couple of Duron benchmarks were on the net last week or so, and its performance was 98% of the Athlon classic. Wouldn´t that be a early benchmark to?

Let´s wait for the final release, but if Thunderbird is only 5% faster than Duron, what´s the point?

        what´s the point?
Exactly. And that's why those numbers aren't to be trusted.

Goto www.amdzone.com They have all the low down about these test. Supposely they were using an enginneering sample because there is not even going to be released a 700MHz version. The lowest will be 800MHz according to admzone.

Benchmarks at this early stage must be taken with a pound of salt!
            There,at best, a general guide.
The release date is just around the corner,so we should start seeing some real world tests.
The Duron does look promising,as do the mobos.Epox,MSI and others,as does the ALI's chipset.
I suspect good times are ahead and then we'll all have new problems and solutions!

This reminds me of back when i got my Pentium Pro setup. All my geek friends said it was pointless.. that it wouldn't be any faster than a regular Pentium on all the apps out at the time. Guess what? I'm still using the thing while their P5 systems hit the dumpster a couple of years ago!

The Athlon is a lot like the PPro in some ways. The software out there hasn't really been optimized enough for them yet. In a couple of years, when people are trashing their PentiumIIIs as being too old and slow, there will be a lot of Athlon systems still chugging along just fine.

So yeah, the benchmarks are what's not ready for prime time yet...
