does it makes any difference in performance to have a single sided dimm or a double sided?

Shouldn't think so - it may have a negligable difference from an engineering point of view but for real world there will be no noticable difference.

The type of memory on the DIMM will make the difference

PS: I don't know if single sided DIMMs have any significance with regards to chip types - all my DIMMs are dual sided.
