Strange problem with WinAmp 2.6

Btw, Jason, none of the plug-ins are highlighted when I look at them while playing CD-Audio.

Errr.... that's a problem, dear. Something <u>is supposed to be</U>!!!!

How do I know? I was just testing some MP3s on my HDD prior to burning, but Winamp gave me an "error opening writer" and wouldn't play. I knew that was the Wav writer plugin (gotta flush the names cache & trash some stuff) so I *cough*highlighted it*cough*: it wanted an output directory, which I set. Then went back to the player (you'll notice that there's a step missing right there...and if you don't you will in a minute.) and pressed "play"

No sound, and the play bar went across about 3X faster than normal.... oh.

The missing step: the Wav writer plugin was still highlighted, so that was what Winamp used on my MP3's. I went back and highlighted the wav Out plugin (using Wave Mapper, my Aureal Playback driver doesn't work), and they sounded fabulous as usual.

So try highlighting the "Nullsoft CD/Line in" plugin and see if that might help you.

Under Input plug-ins, there SHOULDN'T be any highlighted. Waveout or Directsound should be highlighted under Output plug-ins. Also, check the balance in Winamp and the Windows mixer (I can't believe nobody mentioned that yet) and make sure it's centered.

You know guys, I hate to do this, but I am going to have to KISS Liquid Snake on his or her forehead... It was Windows's mixer that was off-center for some reason...

Okay, it's CDDB ...

I just tried again, started a new CD, didn't d/l the list through CDDB and I had full stereo everywhere.

I d/l the listing of the CD through CDDB and I had the left channel playing music only.

Reset WinAmp, started the CD again, not d/ling CDDB and BOOOOM, stereo, two channel music !!

I'll lay off the CDDB for the moment.
