windows 2000 SUCKS!!!

why does win2000 not let me in on my network.one minute i can access server-the next minute the damn thing tells me i have no permission to access server!!!
i have server permissions wide open.
what the hell is going on?
any suggestions VERY appreciated!!!

uhhhhh,excuse me but it has alot to do with matrox hardware-ALL MY MACHINES have matrox g400 in them and i build new machines daily using g400-and my drivers for them are on my server.

The simple fact that you have a G400 in your machine does not make this Matrox related.
You see, the G400 is a video card, not a network card.
Nor did Matrox write Win2000, or it's network code.

I think it is safe to say it is not a Matrox hardware issue that is causing your problem.

Question 1: Is this at work or home?

Q 2: Are you the admin over the server/network?

Q 3: Are you setup as a user on the server?

My suggestion is to create a user for you on the server. If you are logging on to a domain, then add your domain user to the Domain Administrators or Administrators group on the server/DC.

If you are logging in locally to your workstation, you can add a local user on the server with the same name and password. Then add that user to the Administrators group. In theory that should work...I think.

As a member of the Domian Administrators group, you should have access to all servers and workstations on the group. And if you are the admin over the group, there shouldn't be any troubles with that.

question 2:yes-admin.i set it up from win98 se.

here is what i discovered in the last hour dinking with it.
i have the server setup with 4 machines on a network hub.the fith being the server,we share internet via proxy thru it as well.
proxie always works without a headache.
when it refuses to let me in the harddrive from any of my machines i just print out something and then it lets me browse the server harddrive.
i have permissions set as full for anyone.
this thing is wierd.
windows 98se never gave me these weirdo problems.
thanks for the help-i will try your suggestions.
all my files for working on pc's are in it and i need to access it freely.

Chip,

1. Did you setup the W2K system as part of a domain or a workgroup?

2. Is it W2K Pro *(Workstation)*, or W2K Server?

3. If Pro, and Workgroup, did you add the userid's that you log onto the other systems on as users in the workgroup user file (user administrator on the "SERVER")?
