Safe to switch a P2-350 with P3-500

I've recently picked up another system with a P3-500 on a ZX chipset - and I've got a P2-350 with BX (a 1 1/2 yr old SuperMicro P6SBA) and wanted to switch the CPUs.

But - initially - is there a (possible disastrous) voltage difference between them? I'll try and get some info if the chips if req.

And anybody know if a BIOS which don't support the P3 will blow the P3 - or just not give me it's full benefit (eg SSE).

Check the mobo manufacturer's site for BIOS upgrades and try it... If its an E variant P3 there might be a voltage difference, but it won't blow the CPU, it just wont work.

If the BIOS doesnt support the CPU, it won't post, my mobo manufacturer's tech support told me they had tried the CPU I intended to purchase and it would work fine if I used the BIOS they sent me, needless to say it doesnt... but the chip is still ok, I tried it in a friends newer BX board.

Luckily I'm acquiring an unused Asus P2B-S from work
