  • Startup Files In MSConfig

In noticed that when I run msconfig and check the last tab (labeled "Startup", I think), I have several entries duplicated and in some cases even listed 3 times.
I can uncheck all the duplicate boxes and everything still functions, but I'm curious why they are there and how to get rid of them.
Also, I notice some programs there that do not show up in my "Task List" such as "Load power scheme". Are these programs really necessary?
My rig: P4 3.0GHz; Asus P4C800E; 1GB DDR 3200; AIW Radeon 9800 Pro; WD 120GB SATA; Plextor DVD burner; Liteon DVD reader; Audigy 2ZS; Logitech Z560 4.1; NEC FE991SB

Kid's rig: AMD XP 1600+; 512MB ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 60GB; Plextor CD burner; Sony DVD reader; SB Live; Cambridge 4.1 speakers; NEC FE991SB

That appears to be a common problem with Windows 9X. Yes you can get rid of the extras (as long as they are exact duplicates). Some of the starts run as processes, some as services depending on the options. The power settings is one that is usually safe to get rid of the dup's on, and will reduce your startup time after the logon screen.
