Abit BE6-II and overclocking

Hey guys,

How stable is the UDMA66 controller onboard the BE6-II when the PCI bus is pushed over 33Mhz?

And is Winbond PC133 RAM any good?

And why did my PIII-500 once go up to 750Mhz with the winbond RAM, but now, 4 weeks down the line, I get the SAME stick back, and now will only reach 667?

I don't know if this answers your question, but my BE6-2 runs much faster and more stable using the dip switches instead of the Softmenu. I haven't had any problem with the HPT controller (IBM Deskstar 13 GB) at 112 MHz fsb. (Highest I've oc'd it with an IDE drive). My BE6 runs fine at 120 MHz using the HPT66 controller. I'm having some problems at 124 MHz, but I don't know what to attribute them to. One of the culprits may be the HPT66 controller.

I just switched my AOpen AX6BC Pro II ME board with a friend's Abit BE6-II revision 1.0 cuz he was having trouble getting a Cel II 600 to work with it. Anyway, after installing the board, it worked fine at 124, but wouldn't POST at 133. Then after leaving it at 124, Norton Utilities would start reporting that I had illegal partitions on my HD! I was hoping I didn't damage the HPT366 controller.

So I started playing again with different bus speeds and settings in my BIOS. Now I have the computer running stable at a 140MHz FSB, but with a CAS 3 setting in the memory instead of 2. Hopefully all goes well when I test the thing with games. My AGP2X version of the G400MAX doesn't like going to high, especially when the 2/3 divider on 140MHZ results in a AGP bus speed of 93MHz.

Anyway, once I play a few games of Q3 and Rainbow Six, I'll repost to let you guys know if my machine locks up.

A week ago I was able to get my 650 PIII to run at 865 mhz for half an hour under win2k at 1.75. A week later it said bollocks at 1.80 or 1.75 volts with a heatsink that runs 4C cooler than the stock heatsink. Conc it must be the humidifty or the time of month.

I'm not absolutely certain that my BE-6 1.0 has the same revision of the HPT366 as the BE6-II, but I can tell you that I've had no problems attributable to the controller itself, at speed up to 124Mhz.

Winbond memory ain't bad, i had mine upto 146 with my 600e. Only for about half an hour though, fink the chip had had enough of 876. Might be getting a peltier so will report on any higher speeds
