Put the NIC in the last or second to last PCI slot.

It's in there already... Last PCI slot, can't get any lower, for it doesn't fit in an ISA slot

Btw, yes, I tried the 3rd PCI slot as well, didn't make that much of a difference.

I could go back to the BIOS and force it to sit on IRQ#9, but I just wonder what the IRQ for a NIC usually is.

Addition: I don't have any problems (yet)

I guess you're using Windows 2000, seeing all the irq sharing. I don't think you will be getting any problems as long as your motherboard supports ACPI completely... just take a look at my irq assignments:

If I wasn't running Windows 2000 in ACPI, this IRQ assignment would have killed my system for sure; Here are the basic rules when it comes to these devices:
- SBLive! should never share an IRQ with the G400, and should have an IRQ of 9 or higher
- G400 should not share an IRQ with any device
- SCSI cards should not share IRQ's
- Studio PCTV should never, EVER share an irq (according to Pinnacle)

hmmm... maybe I should try to install win98 to see what happens... probably get a semi-nuclear explosion from my pc....

so Win2k is just great when it comes to ACPI pnp support....

so is that your legally obtained (*ahum*) Dutch WinME or Win98SE version running? ;-)

I know that dZeus, but I'm running Win98 (First Edition). I can't disable ACPI in the BIOS, for my old rev 1.02 Asus P2B does support the ACPI BIOS, but doesn't have the ACPI button installed that I can enable or disable.

Strangest thing here is that I had never any problems with the ACPI button or IRQs in my listing before I was forced to get rid of my primary partition and reinstall gd everything

So the question still stands... what's the NICs best IRQ? (I could put it to 9)

while I don't know if you can change IRQ's in ACPI mode (I don't know how to), I would only put the nic on 9 if you get problems

but if I understand correctly, IRQ's are no issue any more when running in ACPI mode... you can share anything with anything (as on my irq sharing).

and while I can set the IRQ's in my BIOS for each PCI slot, those settings don't affect the windows assignment on my PC (unless running a non-ACPI OS)

My two NIC's are on 3 and 5. Both are PCI and the modems are on 3 on both. No problems. But I ran my G400 for several months with a NIC and G400 sharing 11 with no problems. Perhaps you should just leave it alone until some problem develops.

I've been going through some IRQ reshuffling with my P2B-S (won't go into why right now). I guess you already know about the backward PCI slot 1. Since you don't have an "S" or "LS", you don't have to worry about slot 4. I was able to force my Max unto IRQ 9 by specifying slot 1 IRQ in the BIOS. I didn't have to force IRQ 9 since it was alone on IRQ 11 but that put my RAID ahead of it at 10. Running Win98. Didn't have to disable PnP in the BIOS or Device Manager. Q3A didn't like sharing the MX300 IRQ (hangs or exits when going into setup). Even with SCSI, its hard not to land up sharing an IRQ (my NIC does) and I have two cards that don't play well with others and two slots that share IRQs.

This is mine, quite an odd configuration, but the only way I could get both the sblive, my nic, and my video card on separate irqs.
