Speeding up IE5 without Modem tweaking

Well after getting pissed off with the slow proxy server at work I knocked off the automatic detection and this speeded things up.
Now this raises the question does IE try autodectect the proxy server at each site. Anyway at home I've now done the same and things have also speeded up. It's also possible that the connection is quicker tonight anyway but it's worth leaving like this.

and how exactly do you "knock off the automatic detection on IE5"?

Tools > Internet options > Connection tab > Lan settings and tick off automatically detect settings.
