  • I get the bonehead of the week award(except for kyle@ hardocp who fried a 1GHz tbird)

I moved my old slow K6-2 rig over to my new chassis cuz I was bored waiting for my new mobo and chip to show up. I wanted to test out the airflow since I installed of these new fans and wanted to see if it made a difference. It made a difference allright! I fried all of my fricken fan connectors on the mobo because I have this one fan that has both three pin and 4 pin connector and I accidentally plugged both of them in. AAARRGGGHHH! Needless to say, none of the fan connectors work anymore. The part I'm really scared about is the fact that the connector that did it all was also connected to my brand new HP CD-RW(please don't let anything be wrong). So far, I haven't seen any problems except for IE won't load anymore. hmmm? Only time will tell. OK, call me an idiot, I deserve it.

Heh I feel for you man...

Ok, I only sort of feel for you. It does suck when you do something stupid and fry components like, on the upside though it amuses the rest of us.

What I really want to know is whats this about kyle frying a 1ghz Tbird? I can't seem to find it on the page(course I haven't looked too hard so far )

I once blew a power supply up by crossing the probes I was using to measure it. It makes a good bang I do tell you. Next time I want to reach for something I won't try wedging them in the connector again.

At least you got rid of IE in an original way

But then again, didn't you read the manual, you big putz? (well, we have your permission to call you names )

the problem was the "feet" on the alpha heatsink, the tbird already has it's own "feet" causing no contact between the heatsink and cpu, Doh!

There is actually good news out of this. I talked to my local pc distributor and they have the Asus A7V in stock. I even made them pull one out of the box and check to see if it had the frquency DIP switches. Sure enough, it did! I also ordered a t-bird 700 to go along with it. What are some good fans to consider? If I can get the pc solid at 950, I'll be happy
