    Thanks to all who replied. From what I understand, it is as much a BIOS issue as a Win9X issue. The Intel 430TX chipset did not report the No FDD drive correctly to the O/S...a newer Chipset would not necessarily have this problem.

    Thanks for all of your input and help with this nagging problem.

      The problem will still probably be in WinME as it is a DOS legacy problem - Win2k ain't affected. I take it that your systems crawl to a halt when you try to access the floppy drive?
