Damn. I finally got around to overclocking my P3-750, one of the old steppings. I couldnt get it to 120 FSB (900MHz). It wouldn't POST at 124. Guess P3-750 isn't too great for overclocking. I have a TennMax P3STF on it. Right now, I'm running it at 825MHz (110 FSB). So far, it seems stable, but I haven't done too much testing. Temperature stays under 43C (110F).

skeoch:
I bought the FC700 with an Asus slocket, and I immediately set it for 933 (133*7). I have no extra case fans and an Intel stock heatsink. All this on hot summer days with no air conditioning and it's STABLE for 3 days now; not even a hiccup. And I only had to bump the voltage from 1.65 stock to 1.75 to do it. Best buy I ever had as far as CPU's go. Personally, I wouldn't recommend going over 133mhz bus, but lots of people in here would argue that. 933 is good enough for me; feeds my GeForce 2 well.

Liquid Snake, you've propably got a CA2 stepping Cuppermine. Intel later refined the process with a CB0 stepping. The CB0 is able to reach higher frequencies and is dual processor capable. All PIIIs from 800 an up are CB0 steppings. At this page you can identify your model.P5B Deluxe, C2D E6600, Scythe Ninja, G.Skill 2GBHX

Damn, I knew I should've got 800 instead of 750. Oh well. Yeah, I know I have cA2 (SL3V6), but I wanted to know if FC-PGA CPUs overclock any better than Slot1.

I don't think that one overclocks better than the other, but how would you ever prove such a thing?
I don't know enough about the different interfaces (slot/socket/slocket) to make an educated guess.
A little story though:
I have an FC-PGA 650 CA2, which I could crank to 866 on my P3B-F, IF I set the voltage to 1.85 on my Soltek slocket (it wasn't very stable though). On my CUSL2 I can't even boot at 1.85, but the mobos are different so I don't know that you can extrapolate anything from that.
Seeing that less than 866 MHz is just too damn slow in Notepad I just bought meself a 750 CB0 FC-PGA and went for 1 Gig.

one of the key things I like about slot1's is that you can cool it from both sides

I think the flip chips are better for overclocking for a few reasons:
1) you get a great selection of top notch fans (not that you'll need them)
2) you can apply the thermal grease yourself
3) if you use a slocket, you avoid that heat-trapping black cartridge (although I don't really know if it traps much heat)
4) it's like driving a VW; it just feels better.
I can't really see why a slot 1 coppermine would overclock any worse, unless that black casing traps a lot of heat.

P.s.: I have mine cooled from both sides too. I'm using a stock Intel fan / heatsink, and I reversed the case fan in the back of my box. Instead of sucking air out of the case, it now blows air onto the back of my slocket. My case has the side panel off, so it's wide open.Bart

I always rip those black "coffins" off as soon as I read all the important info on them (then it goes in the mobo box with all the other useless stuff
