  • CAS-2 Settings?

Can anyone tell me what CAS-2 means? Does it make the ram faster? How can I use it?

    Thanks

CAS 2 is faster than CAS 3 by about one speed grade - so use it if you can. In other words, a 400 mhz machine using CAS 2 will run about as fast as a 450 mhz machine at CAS 3. I have some generic RAM in my computer, but have always been able to run it at CAS 2. Just set you bios to CAS 2 and see if it runs. If you machine is stable, just keep it on CAS 2.

Most RAM now will run at CAS 2 as long as you don't overclock the front side bus much. Where you have problems is if you try to get PC100 SDRAM much past 115mhz. Of course better RAM will allow for more FSB overclocking in some cases. But there are other variables that might also keep you from getting higher FSB overclocking. Try yours and see. If it won't boot or isn't stable, you should still be able to get back into bios to set it back to CAS 3 even if you have to set your FSB below 100 mhz. But I've always found a way to get back into bios to reset it.
