  • Anyone tried the new Logitech Optical mice?

I'm thinking of getting one of these to go with my new StinkPad. How do they compare to Microsoft's optical mice? Specifically the Optical Mouseman Wheel, and the Optical Wheel Mouse, compared to the Intellimouse Explorer and the Intellimouse Optical, respectively. Thanks in advance guys...

Here's a review of the Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse:

I own a Cordless Mouseman Wheel (which is the same shape as the optical one), and IMO, the design is much better than the Intellimouse Explorer.

I use both daily, and both are pretty much the same. I like the intellimouse explore better because the wheel doesn't have such strong detents in it. The intellimouse also fits my large hands rather well, too. The logitech has better feeling buttons, though. All in all you can't go wrong with either one. If you have larger hands, get the microsoft, if not go with the logitech.

Well, that settles it. I'll get the Explorer for home, and the little logitech for the laptop. Thanks guys.

About the shape of the bigger logitech model, I have an original Mouseman+ that is the same shape, and I don't like it. Even thought it's quite big, it swoops down so low in the back that my hand drags on the desk. I think the explorer would fit my hand better. However, the smaller logitech is just that, small, so it would fit nice in the laptop bag (and it's cheap too ).

That's weird, actually if you have big hands the Logitech Mouse seems bigger. At least it does to me.

Frankly, I've used both and Logitech made a much better product IMO.

I don't know if it's an issue of size, but shape. The shape of the logitech doesn't quite fit my hand as well, and it feels smaller, almost like I am using a mac mouse (well, not quite that bad =P) .

OK Rags, how do you know what a Mac mouse feels like?

A minor gripe with the Logitech is that you need to hack the registry in order to use the wheel to do the weapons select in FPS. Logitech makes the reg hack available from the website, tho...

Overall, pretty impressed with the Logitech. I'll never go back to a 'male' mouse again. I'll take a 'female' any day.

Can you get an optical mouse with any weight to it? I find them too light-feeling (based on toying with a Microsoft one).

The microsoft and logitech mice both use the same technology (licenced off some other company), so its really just down to which one you like the shape of best.

Thats very much a personal choice, so go down to a store and try them.

(I've got the smaller logitech wheel mouse on order btw )

Actually, Logitech had the optical technology for quite a while, but it was used in their trackballs, not their regular mice.

Has anyone used a trackball for fps? if so what are they like compared to conventional mice, are they quick enough?

I use a Logitec Trackman Marble FX for everything. It took me awhile to get used to playing FPS games with it (greebe nicknamed me Spinner) but I can hold my own now. I can do a 360 degree spin quite easily...LOL
