Crucial 7E versus Mushkin HSDRAM

I am considering getting some higher quality SDRAM, along with upping to 256MB. I run high bus speeds because of my P3-450 @ 660. So, I need some memory that can do about 150MHz.

I also run SETI so memory speed is really important to me.

Any tips? comments? benchmarks?

Word has it that you're better off with 128MB modules for O/Cing ... but I don't have any first-hand experience.

I thought Mushkin was selling PC-150 RAM. I wouldn't buy a 256 MB DIMM either. I've never tried one, but it's expensive, and I've heard some motherboards don't like it.

I like Crucial RAM. I've been buying it for a long time, and because of their position on Rambus, I now like the idea of supporting Micron. 150 MHz is a bigtime overclock, however, and I've heard Mushkin RAM is particularly good for this purpose. I'm sure you'll pay a premium for it.

The Crucial 7E is back in stock at $170 per 128 DIMM. The Mushkin PC150 HSDRAM is still $195 per 128MB DIMM.

I know that Rags has gotten the Crucial 7E to run at 2,2,2 all the way up to 165MHz FSB.

The Muskin PC150 HSDRAM is designed to run at
CAS= 2, CAS to RAS= 3, Precharge= 2 from 100MHz to 150 MHz. Their PC133 HSDRAM runs at 3,3,3 at 133MHz.

I got the Muskin for my new system only because the Crucial 7E was out of stock. It does show slightly faster Read, Write and Copy speeds than the Micron 8E DIMMS that I was using.

My opinion would be to save that extra $50.00 and go with 2 128MB DIMMs of the Crucial 7E.

Thanks guys. Yeah I've been leaning towards Crucial mainly because of price. And I know Crucial's stuff kicks ass in many ways.

Believe it or not, the RAM I have right now is PC125 8ns and it's done 150 but, that's at 3-3-3 and i doubt it's overly stable and it's also only 128MB.

I wouldn't get a 256MB DIMM, simply because they don't overclock well. I'd think Mushkin would be offering them more openly than their 2-packs of 128 if they were just as stable as 128's.
