    RAB and Jord,
I'm at the mercy of the system here...I haven't written a single exam yet. I'm studying in my spare time from my real life job (drafting at an architectural firm)...so if I can squeak in the core Nt4 exams before they are retired...all for the better. If not...I am willing to pursue the Win2k track next year...we're swamped right now so I have no idea whether I can enough time in between now and the end of the year to get the core exams in and the be able to qualify for the accelerated exam.
Whatever happens...hope to hear from both of you.

      Darksyd,

concentrate on enterprise, workstation and server exams's. That's all you need to qualify for the accelerated track. Shouldn't be much of a problem...

      Rab,
Win2k uses a thingy called ddns (dynamic dns) to replace the old netbios name resolution stuff (wins), It's like wins (dynamic) but it use full dns-names instead. Win2k can still handle the old way, but you will have to setup a dns server if there isn't one already (you can set up one on the first domain controller.)

The DNS service part does seem a bit confusing when you first read it the best way to learn it is setting up a dns server @home and play around with it..

      Grtz,
      Ed

Dynamic DNS is simply an RFC extension to DNS which allows HOST-A records to be sent to the server to dynamically update its tables vs. having to bring down the server for updates.

Thanks for the intro to Win2k DNS. I had a feeling MS would make DNS dynamic in some way in Win2k. The old NT 4 way of static mapping is a pain and I found out that DNS does not like thing DNS does not like duplicate names. (I gave a computer a netbios name of "XYZ" and tried to name my domain "XYZ.com" and it had troubles.)

Syd, if you are just now starting, you might consider just the Win2k programs. It could easily take you right up to December 31, 2000 to get ready for and take the first three NT 4 exams. Your time would probably be better spent on Win2k since much of the subject matter is the same with a little new stuff added in.

Jord, Net Essentials is no longer a part of the Win2k courses, but it is a good intro to networking. I didn't take it until after WS, Server and Enterprise, but some places teach it first. To me, it seems more logical to take it after the first three, but since its now integrated into the Win2k courses and not tested separately, maybe its better first.

Not MSFT, IETF, though MSFT contributes ... see RFC 2136. MSFT realized with W2K that they would have to conform to international standards if they were to effectively compete in the enterprise.
