The 2 Abit boards I have experiance of (BP6 and BF6) have given me nothing but headaches. I'd go for the Asus....

Go with the BX133. The good old BX chipset is still a bit faster than the i815. There is also the problem with the maximum AGP aperature setting of 64 with the i815 chipset and no ISA slots.
The BX133 is a great overclocking board.

Go with Asus. Either the CUSL2 or the CUBX. I've had three abit boards (Intel and AMD versions) and they have given me nothing but trouble.
As far as which chipset, depends on your needs. If you don't want to overclock your card to 89mhz and possibly cause artifacting and other problems, go with the CUSL2. I have this board right now, and it truly is as good as the reviewers say. BTW, it's not noticeably slower than the BX chipset.

I think both Asus and Abit are fine (never have seen someone having problems with a Abit board, except the BP6, but if you buy a BP6, you should know the risks of running into problems.)
imo the Asus boards have always been overpriced... well, at least the Dual boards.. don't really know about single CPU boards.

with the i815 chipset and no ISA slots.
And this is somehow a bad thing Paul?
Personally, I can't wait for the day when the daemon known as ISA finally dies a painful and lasting death and leaves us free of its ugly legacy reverse compatability crap. My current mobo has one ISA slot on it and I wish that it didn't have that, it's taking up valuable space that could be used for another PCI slot(not that I actually have any nead for 6 PCI slots currently). IMNSHO of course.

I think the absense of an ISA slot is a bad thing if you have an ISA modem or an ISA NIC and you'd rather not replace it. Faxmodems aren't cheap. NIC's are, but most home users won't take advantage of the upgrade, and the money can always be put to better use.
A lot of motherboard manufacturers give users the option. Asus has motherboards that come with more than one slot configuration. Abit goes so far as to provide six PCI slots and still fit an ISA slot in there. Unless your're using an MSI board, at least one of the PCI slots on a six slot board will be darn close to useless anyway.

I'd stay away from the CUSL2. Some friends of mine have them and there's lots of issues to be worked out. Go to www.cusl2.com and browse around in the forums so you'll be prepared if you decide to get one.

People who have problems with their CUSL2 go to that forum, that's why it looks so bad
Using that logic, if someone came to these forums, they'd stay away from any Matrox product too
However, take a look at the reviews on major hardware websites (anandtech, firingsquad, sharky extreme, etc) and then make a choice. You'll see all of them repeat the same thing over and over... Asus boards are the king of stability. (And pretty much everything else too) A few Abit boards have excelled in stability, but still fall short.
