Celeron II 566 upgrade, is it really that bad?

I currently have a Celeron 300a@464. I have the chance to trade something I have for a Celeron II 566 which is GTD to do 850 and has done as high as 928. It would work with my current mobo as well. However everyone is telling me I should sell some stuff I have and upgrade to a Duron and KT7. Would I not see a good performance boost from the celeron II 566?

What kind of performance boost would I see upgrading to the celery II?

It depends on what programs you ar using! In most games you will see an increase of 10-20 FPS, SETI times will bee abaut 2.5h faster! But if you are just runing "standard" windows aplications (ms office etc.) you will propably not notice any performace increase!

I once had a celery 300a@450, and I just recently got a celery 566@850. There is a huge performance jump between the two.

However, I also have a t'bird 800@880. The t'bird definitely outperforms the celery, but the celery is still nice and playable. If you are going to be upgrading everything, I would recommend going the t'bird (or duron) route. If you are looking for a minimal upgrade that will still work with your mobo, the celery 566 is a great way to go.
