  • Best DVD for Dolby 5.1 sound?

I believe you sound card can use the 2 wire all digital input. So, I would just make sure that my DVD drive had a working all digital output. I know my Sony drive's is active not sure about others. Besides that I would not think there is any difference in drive as the card does the decodeing.

How well does the remote work. What programs can it control etc. I have the X-Gamer and am thinking of getting the Live! Drive and remote
As far as I know the digital out carries only CD audio. Yes the decoding depends on the DVD software and the 5.1 software for the Live!

      Jeff,
I believe the 16x Pioneer slot load has digital out. That's the one I've been eyeing for a while now. Thanks for the info!

      DentyCracker,
I'm just in the process of assembling my hardware, so I'll let you know when I get it running. It looks incredible, though! Can you e-mail me some REAL jerk chicken please? I fell in love with it in Ocho Rios 7 years ago and have been buying Canadianized jerk since then. (close, but not quite the same)

Best DVD for Dolby 5.1 sound?

        Hi,
I just bought a SB Platinum 5.1 sound card and was wondering which DVD-ROM works best for Dolby 5.1 sound?
        Thanks!

          DVD-ROM? Film or drive?

Drive? - doesn't matter. I like pioneer drives and toshiba ones too.

Film? Saving Ryan's Privates is meant to be very good.

Oh, and for the umpteenth time, there's NO NEED (Mark n' Lard Stylee non radio 1 listeners will have no idea what I'm on about... ) to have digital output from the back of the DVD drive to get dolby digital 5.1 sound!!!! That only gives digital output from when you listen to audio CDs.

I fear SteveC that we brits are in a great minority. We brits that listen to Mark and Lard are even further in the minority.

Dammit, gotta get a soundcard on this unix boxso I can listen to the show of an afternoon.

Oh, the topic......I agree on the no need for digital out for 5.1, although good for CD playing.

As always, I reccomend pioneer for the job.

Let's say it ONE MORE TIME, so that EVERYONE gets it LOUD AND CLEAR!

DVD AUDIO DOES NOT COME OVER THE DIGITAL OUTPUT ON THE DVD-ROM DRIVE! NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT! EVER! UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

                Are we coming through clearly?

Just like Digital Audio Extraction, DVD Video audio is transferred over the appropriate bus, whether IDE or SCSI.

In the DVD case, the music is encoded and intertwined with the video - you need the DVD decoder to split them!

btw, what was the name of the DVD format which sold you a cheap disc which required a dialup connection to be made to watch the film, which was on a pay-per-view basis. The reason is I think that DivX ;-) is taking the mick out of DivX the pay-per-view scheme - am I right?

                      Paul.

                        Pace,

No no. The lousy pay-per-view scheme was DIVX, and the compression format is DivX. There's a difference. See the two lower-case letters? Those things make all the difference in the world to video pirates, because they are too 3733+ for the rest of us. Many of them are even |<-R4DD, D00D5!
